Description

Molara, an integral part of the Tavolara Marine Protected Area, included within the municipality of Olbia, is today a deserted and unspoiled island. According to tradition, it would have hosted a pope in exile. Quiet and extraordinarily beautiful, the island of Molara, less famous than the nearby Tavolara, is a jewel of rock and Mediterranean scrub nestled in the sea of Gallura. A few kilo meters away from the mainland, it cannot be freely visited. The property is private and the only way to discover this island is to contact the Molara Cultural Association, which, with great passion, accompanies visitors to the most evocative and fascinating places. Different story for the sea around, given that especially in summer there are many boats that stop in front of the island, in particular in the pools called pools, where the sea is certainly one of the most beautiful in the entire Mediterranean. Also in Molara you can admire the remains of a castle built in the Middle Ages to counter pirate raids, a small church and the ruins of a monastery. In the center of the island, however, there is a farm built in the nineteenth century, where goats and cattle were raised and cheese was produced.
